New strategies for organic egg production with reduced dietaryphosphhorus (ORPHEUS)

New feeding strategies are going to optimize the phosphorous (P) supply for organic laying hens and thus reduce the P excretion in manure. This will be an optimal strategy for the organic egg producers to fulfil the conditions of the new livestock regulations, rather than expanding the field area on the farm, which would lead to reduced nitrogen supply and thus lower plant production per ha. Through experiments with reduced P content in the feed and in interaction with the strategically optimal time for calcium (Ca) allocation to the layers, research results are obtained which can identify an optimal feeding strategy for an entire egg production period, which can be implemented in practice at organic egg producers.
